God Prepares Us for His Purpose

Updated: Oct 27

god prepares us for his purpose

Let’s talk about those moments when life just doesn’t make sense.

You’re doing what you believe is right. You’re working hard, staying honest, trying to follow God, and still—nothing seems to move. Or worse, it feels like you’re losing ground. Like for every step forward, you get knocked back two. Doors close without warning. People disappoint you. Circumstances shift so fast it makes your head spin. And in the quiet, that question starts to echo: "God, what are You doing with my life?"

If that’s where you are, I want you to know: you’re not alone. And more importantly—you’re not forgotten.

Let me remind you of someone who lived through that same tension: Joseph.

Joseph’s life started with favor. He was loved deeply by his father. He had dreams—God-sized ones. But one day, everything shifted. His own brothers threw him into a pit. Sold him into slavery. And just when things seemed to turn around—when he found favor in Potiphar’s house—he got falsely accused and locked in prison.

Years went by. Years.

No applause. No explanations. Just silence. Just the grind of day after day in a place he didn’t deserve to be. And I imagine there were moments when Joseph cried out, “God, where are You? What happened to the dream?”

But what Joseph couldn’t see—what we so often miss in our own stories—is that God wasn’t absent in those hidden years. He was working behind the scenes. Writing something bigger.

Because when Pharaoh had a dream and the whole nation needed an answer, Joseph was ready. And not just ready—he was equipped with wisdom, humility, discernment, and the kind of strength that only forms in the fire.

Every pit, every prison, every painful step was preparation. What looked like wasted time was actually God’s training ground for purpose.

And here’s the truth you need to hear today:

God Prepares Us for His Purpose

You might not like the path. It might feel long, unclear, or unfair. But if God is leading, it's not random. It's preparation.

1. His timing is perfect—even when it feels delayed.

Joseph waited over a decade for his breakthrough. And even then, it came suddenly—but only after years of being faithful in the dark. What feels like a delay might just be God’s way of aligning things for the right moment. Don’t mistake waiting for wasting.

2. Your past doesn’t disqualify you—it equips you.

The places you’ve been? The stuff you’ve been through? It’s not for nothing. God uses every chapter—messy, painful, confusing—to shape you. To teach you what can’t be learned any other way. Joseph’s leadership came out of hardship, not a highlight reel.

3. He’s shaping you with wisdom the world desperately needs.

Joseph wasn’t just smart—he had spiritual insight. That kind of wisdom comes from walking with God in the hard places. Your trials are teaching you how to see differently, how to speak with grace, how to carry hope. That’s what the world is starving for.

4. Every season—good, bad, and in between—is forming you for His calling.

Nothing is wasted. Not the pit. Not the prison. Not the waiting. Not the loneliness. God is weaving it all together to form you into someone who can carry His purpose with strength and humility.

5. And through it all, His faithfulness never changes.

Joseph’s story is not a story of instant success—it’s a story of long obedience in the same direction. Through betrayal, injustice, obscurity, and delay—God never left. And He hasn’t left you either.

If Joseph’s journey shows us anything, it’s this:

What feels like a setback might just be a setup for something greater.

So take a deep breath. God is not done with your story. He hasn’t forgotten the dream. He hasn’t overlooked your faithfulness. The breakthrough might not be today—but it is coming.

👉 That’s why we created a 5-Day Bible Reading Plan & Devotional based on Joseph’s journey.

It’s designed to help you:

  • Wrestle with the hard questions

  • See God’s hand in the delays

  • Discover the purpose behind your pain

  • Walk forward with renewed faith

Each day walks you through a part of Joseph’s story, paired with Scripture, reflection, and honest prayer to help you live it out.

You don’t have to figure this all out on your own.

Sign up today and start the journey—because God is preparing you for more than you can see right now.

And when that door opens—like it did for Joseph—you’ll be ready.

Not because you had it all together.

But because God was with you through it all.

And He still is.
